do you think he forgets lyrics

obviosly he did some old soundgarden songs that he's probably not done in a while at the recent SG show. do you think he needed to review the lyrics or do you think that shit is like riding a bike?

Re: do you think he forgets lyrics

That may be why the 1st show was a much shorter setlist then we usually get from Chris. Other then Loud Love at a few shows and Gun at a few shows, he has not played anything from the first 3 albums in quite some time

In Cleveland in 2007, He needed to print out the lyrics and read them while the band performed SuperUnknown for the first time.

I am sure they come back pretty quick though

It always amazes me how Pearl Jam can play a completely different setlist night after night & many shows, Eddie throws the setlist together about 30 mins before the show.

The band must really know those songs well

Many bands will only play the same list night after night.

Re: do you think he forgets lyrics

doubt shorter setlist had anything to do with lyrics, the whole band probably needed to relearn those songs they havent played for years!

I was at that show...it was awesome..Damn was it really that long ago??? But yeah I noticed on Beyond the Wheel, and a couple other songs that the lyrics he sang were incorrect, out of order, and repeated.. but oh well, i'm sure that after a little more practice with the old tunes, it will all come back.

I heard some of the tracks from various YouTube sources - CC had improvised quite well. I wouldn't have known that lyrics were missing etc.
Agreeing that it all will come back to him given time. thirteen years is a long time in anyone's life.

Re: do you think he forgets lyrics

It's obvious he needs to review the lyrics, it's something that you forget as the years go by and the fact he hasn't played some SG songs for such a long time, causes that he has to review the lyrics just like the whole band has to with all the songs, i'm so happy that we can talk about these things, just because they're back, OMG i'm soooooooo happy!! =)

Pearl Jam completely amazes me. The fact that they are so diverse is amazing. Any band that is good enough to release ever single live show that they do is impressive. Metallica does that, but I think they play very similar setlists for long periods of time. You really have no idea what you'll hear at a Pearl Jam concert. Springsteen is good for that too, but I don't think anyone comes close to Pearl Jam.

Just saw Pearl Jam in Cleveland about 2 weeks ago. 29 songs over course of almost 2.5 hours. Even took a request. Setlist completely different then any on the tour so far. Even did a very obscure song in Wash.

Got to love those guys.

I just completely misread that as as "did a very obscure song in Welsh". Was trying to imagine what that had sounded like. ;)

Looking back, I can see how that could be misread. On a Pearl Jam site, it would never be misunderstood. It is one of the better songs on the Lost Dogs CD at least IMHO

Re: do you think he forgets lyrics

Don't tell the guys at the Foo Fighters forum this, but I went to three shows in a row off the last album and every set was identical. Detroit, Chicago, Mnpls. Spotless--but identical. After watching Chris be SO flexible about setlists--he played Wild Horses one night but made us sing the lyrics cuz he couldn't remember them all--I gained an even greater appreciation of Chris. If that's possible. And WAY true about Pearl Jam--amazing. Chris' musical history is 2-3 times FF's--and PJ's is 4-5x more(?). But I've also heard Taylor Hawkins complain that they never rehearse, so maybe that's the difference.

Not to bash my man Dave--cuz he still puts on a helluva show.

Re: do you think he forgets lyrics

I saw him with the Chris Cornell band and those guys sounded just like the recordings. They played most of his popular songs from sg and audioslave. But he did some accoustic songs and he was doing fell on black days and got to the guitar solo and looked confused and started playing a different song. There were some people smoking pot and all the smoke was going into his face. it was perfect. i wish i had it on video because it was hilarious and he remarked that the pot was making it hard to remember the songs or something.

I saw Foo Fighters in Cleveland. It was a great show but the setlist was exact same as most of the shows before it. Most bands do play same setlist over and over..

When Chris played in Cleveland in 2007, his band wanted to play SuperUnknown as part of the encore so he printed out the lyrics & read them as he sang.

I give all the credit in the world to him for checking any foolish pride at the door & admitting he didnt know the lyrics but wanted to play the song..
