Double standards

I am just venting a bit here. I have been reading at SGworld and noticed that as soon as something was mentioned about Eddie V and the wedding and what not...the thread gets shut down. But on the PJ forum I remember a something like a 30+ page rant about Chris, spewing vulger things about his family and him personally and it was left open and people ranted on and on and things were left open forever. Why is there this double standard when it comes to CC and his family? What...or better...who has it out for Chris and his family?
It seems like the issue doesn't lay within the guys from the band. And eddie and chris seems very cool with each other. So where/who is all the hate coming from anyway!?
Sorry...I just get sick of the attacks on Chris and his family. They are good people. I usually don't complain but I have always had frustrations with those sorts of attacks on people. That is part of the reason I read more than post anymore but this just seems to be glaring me in the face. Ok...venting done...off to my day. Hope you all have a good one!

Re: Double standards

I pretty much stopped going in there exept to read sometimes.I don't thinkn I have much in common with most of the people who post in there. But it doesn't surprise me - if you hire another band's team in to run a website and they are going to look out for that band first. It's pretty much turning into a clone of the PJ site and I never posted in there either.

Re: Double standards

What I really think is a double standard is when that board deletes something as innocent as Ed V. getting married, it is considered moderating the forum.
When someone says they wish Chris was back on drugs or died like Kurt -on this forum-, deleting it would be considered CENSORSHIP. Come on! Where is the fairness?

When they say the bands are friends, I believe them. They have to be and Ed seems like a nice guy. However, the PJ forum was a free for all at one time, and I really don't think anyone cared if people said they wanted to stab Chris or wished he would overdose. There were alot of toxic people there who made it their life's work to slander Chris and his family. There would be days and days of vile commentary that went without moderation. I don't know who they are trying to kid here.
If they want to play fair, then they should have played fair about two years ago and practiced what they preached then.

I agree with you hearcc. The PJ forum was a disgrace at one time. I don't believe Kat and Sea werent aware of it like they just said on the SG board. It was impossible to miss and the only way they could not have seen it is if they were not moderating or reading that forum at all for months on end. I remember thinking it reflected really badly on PJ because it looked like they didnt care about what was said on their forum about one of their friends.

Also, it is still going on now in a smaller way. Someone was in there a coupla months ago bitching about Vicky Cornell and that didn't get removed, and there's a thread called "How long till Cornell breaks up Soundgarden...again?" which calls him a "flake" and a "dick".

Re: Double standards

Kat&Sea were "supporting" PJ in past. Didn't seem to care (or maybe even agreed with) shit that was being said about CC&family at that time.
Now they are "supporting" PJ and SG. Hard to work both sides of the street,eh ?

Basically they are more protective of Eddie&family than they are of Cornell&family.

imho

double standards yes

Re: Double standards

there's a thread in SGWorld forum now talking about CC's divorce from Susan Silver, and what impact that might have had on the band reuniting or not reuniting, and the mods haven't removed that so far.

So hey, you can't talk about Eddie getting married and its impact on Pearl Jam touring because it's his private life, but it's OK to talk about Chris's divorce? Something's not right. Howver theyre gonna play it, it should be the same for both bands. If anything SG should be more protected than other bands because hell, IT'S THEIR FORUM.

Re: Double standards

I HATE double standards and I totally agree that it exists on SGWorld.

What I find more striking though,... is that it seems Chris Cornell fans and Soundgarden fans don't get along well on that board!!! How is that possible?!

I really don't like that forum, either. I read it, but I don't post much there. There are no civilzed conversations going on just insults.

I was on vacation so I missed a bit of this drama. Someone actually called Chris a dick? I would have totally responded to that - did anyone on "our" side respond?

That was on the PJ board. Because of all this bullshit I was reading through some old posts on the PJ board from before Scream came out - it got worse after and I think some threads did actually get zapped. But there's still stuff there where CC's accused of being on drugs or being mentally unstable - other people claim he's not on drugs but should get back on them because that's the only thing that fuels his creative abilities. I read one thread alone in which they call him sellout, poser boy, cocksucker, walking abortion, prick, fucking lapdog, freak show exhibit - and go on to abuse more or less everyone connected with the guy. This is all personal abuse, at least it is is on the planet I come from. And I think it's probably also contrary to PJ.com's guidelines about being "big on RESPECT". It's obvious that Kat and Sea over there didn't give a rat's ass about what anyone said about Cornell. And probably still don't. there's even stuff u there with people boasting about how they vandalised CC's wikipedia page or left abusives shit on his myspace, & saying how they deliberately went out to get banned on his official site so they could complain about it later.

According to some new posts on SGWorld, though, looks like the PJ mods might have been ejected. Good riddance to them, hope the new ones will be fairer & do a better job at keeping the peace. No reason why anyone should be fighting over there, nothing's even happened with the band yet.

Re: Double standards

Those are such hurtful, DISrespectful words.

The problem with free speech is that some don't have enough class to refrain from hate speech.

Re: Double standards

What could Chris possibly do to invite so much hatred to be directed at him? There was another good man I read about who loved his neighbor as himself and he came down from heaven to heal the sick and teach us about God. Tons of people also bashed him, too, so don't feel bad. If you are doing the right thing, people have to persecute you, that's just the nature of humility.

Re: Double standards

I think it was just a few sad individuals posting under different identities - they made a big noise but there was very little of substance in it. Every famous person attracts trolls and haters so let's not let it upset us too much. :)

Re: Double standards

And, trolls tend to be a nomadic lot. They get ousted from one forum so they migrate to another and bring their dirty garbage with them.

I think this particular set at SG are hell bent on making CC look bad. If you notice, it's always the same individuals talking smack. Private agenda? Perhaps..... Some of them do seem ..... familiar. :)

Re: Double standards

New moderators, so let's see what happens.
So funny to me that the people who were so up in arms about this forum being moderated are now screaming for moderation there and flagging posts as offensive.

Also those same people post insulting derogatory things, and when they are called on it, demand we take it to a DM, citing us as troublemakers.
Those are the same kind of people who hate cops but are the first ones to call them and know the law better than lawyers, if you know what I mean. ;)

Re: Double standards

They do get a bit tiresome ... don't they?!! They'll probably take a break from their inciteful posts for a while. I'm sure they wouldn't want to get banned from SGworld. I wouldn't be surprised if they take it to the edge trying to get others banned.

And, I'm sure they toodle over here to CC.com from time to time just to check up on "things".

Oh, you know they do! It was even mentioned in one of the "hot" threads.

Re: Double standards

It is so predictable when these poisonous posts show up. CC's birthday, for example. Or whenever there is something noteworthy for him, to detract from any positive posts.

It would be nice if there would be a lull for Lolla, but I seriously doubt it.

Re: Double standards

I'm guessing that there are people from the "old days" who were/are friends or allies of CC's first wife. In any break-up, friends of the couple might take sides, and it's natural that some would take sides against CC. Not terribly surprising, but not very nice either.

You are right that it is natural that some would take sides. It has, however, been what? eight years or so since it all went down and time for everyone to move on if they are not interested in Chris the musician anymore.

It is a tricky, and rather impossible, situation to resolve (happily).
I guess they must carry on, in spite of it all

PS -
I just kind of joined midstream

Maybe best to not get involved in all the 'personal' aspects?

Re: Double standards

The rant against Chris Cornell and his family floating across the internet is like I'm going into a record store in the middle of nowhere. I ask for a Soundgarden, Audioslave or Chris Cornell album. The salesperson would give me the Justin Bieber album instead. I'd be quite offended if you know what I mean.

So true. But if they moved on what would they feel a part of right? Oh well. Like it was said. It is a tiny group of the same people with new screen names where ever they post. I will always speak up when the attacks are about CC and family. Otherwise I have the best group of fans ever that I hang with, on line and in life, and there are more of them then the small haters so the world is a good place :)
